Job Description

The Rigging Artist is responsible for the construction of rigs for 3D characters, vehicles and props, and develops animation et rigging tools. He is responsible for creating animation interfaces that meet technical requirements and the artistic vision of the project.

What you will do:

  • Create rigs for 3D characters and animals models using MAYA or similar software with a focus on hyper realistic characters in particular.
  • Create rigs for 3D vehicles and props for film production.
  • Work with the Supervisor and Game Director to create rigs that are suitable for animation.
  • Develop the rigging workflow, pipeline and design the documentation for your team.
  • Develop and improve the tools and procedures for the streamlining of an efficient animation pipeline.
  • Provide knowledge and solutions for complex rigging and animation problems. Animate and create Motion editing within a complex animation system.
  • Hands-on approach in rigging of a variety of characters and props.
  • Create facial setups that are true and unique to the design and personality of the characters.
  • Support the cinematic design team with their narrative and technical needs.
  • Collaborate with the character and animation team to deliver high quality assets for a wide range of art styles.
  • Collaborate with the different teams to ensure the correct integration of the animation's assets according to the director's vision.
  • Make any necessary changes to ensure that the work is in keeping with the artistic vision.
  • Track and retarget motion capture data.
  • Work with and maintain the existing facial animation system.
  • Contribute to the facial research and development efforts.
  • Ensure that characters’ quality objectives are met within the game engine.
  • Carry out all other related tasks. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed.

What it takes to make it

  • Proven working experience and a keen eye for motion and animation in videogame. (PORTFOLIO IS MANDATORY)
  • Working knowledge of rigging in 3DSMAX, Maya, or smilar tool.
  • Knowledge of 3D software (3DS Max, Maya, and/or MotionBuilder).
  • Experience in rigging, modelling, or animating (or other related experience).
  • Familiarity with scripting is a huge plus, but not mandatory.
  • Strong knowledge of Maya tools,  layers, time/trax editor, keyframing, etc
  • Experience in working collaboratively as a team, and able to work with minimum input.
  • Strong artistic skills and must be comfortable with the technical aspects of the pipeline.
  • Solid understanding of the principles of animations and the anatomy of facial expression.
  • Strong proactivity and troubleshooting skills.
  • Storytelling skills and strong ability to animate characters.
  • Strong time management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills (spoken and written).
  • Self-motivated and agile.


Good to have:

 

  • Familiarity with UE4.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Experience with Motion Capture hardware, motion capture pipelines, and current related technologies is a huge plus.
  • Working experience of Motion builder, and/or other commercial 3D authoring packages.
  • Considerable understanding of video games and broad video game culture.
  • Extensive scripting experience with Python, Mel and/or Max script.
  • Team player, good communication skills, functional English proficiency.
